Hygie Hotel - Montreal, Quebec

Let me save you the trouble: DO NOT stay at this hotel. We traveled to Montreal for a week-long vacation and were utterly horrified by what we encountered. From the moment we entered our room, it was clear this place was a complete disaster. The air was thick and musty, the sheets were stained with blood and mold, and there were clear signs of bed bugs. We both started feeling itchy within minutes and knew there was no way we could spend a single night here.

We left after just 20 minutes, but the ordeal didn’t end there. Despite the horrifying conditions, the staff flat-out refused to refund the $350 we paid. We called multiple times, only to have them hang up as soon as they recognized who we were. They are unhelpful, rude, and condescending. At this point, they’re outright stealing money from guests.

As for the employees? They’re a joke. The guy at the front desk couldn’t even bother to look up from his YouTube videos to acknowledge us. The so-called cleaner was sitting on a guest bed, scrolling through her phone like she was on break. And let’s not forget the group of people openly smoking weed in the kitchen and lobby area. How is this place even legally operating? It’s filthy, mismanaged, and completely unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here. This place is a disgrace.

Escolhemos este lugar para ter a experiência de um formato de hotel diferente, alem de ser mais barato, ele propocionaria uma interação maior com outros hóspedes... Porem ao chegarmos no local encontramos diversas mentiras da publicidade que nao fomos informados...
1- capsulas nao tinham portas e algumas cortinas estavam rasgadas. Elas tambem faziam muito barulho apenas para se movimentar internamente...
2- armarios com portas quebradas, e precisava ter seu proprio cadeado para trancar... Com tamanho muito pequeno para guardar uma mala de viagem...
3- um único banheiro coletivo e um unico chuveiro. Para todos os hospedes do hostel.
O chuveiro ficava caindo para o lado e a água saída pelo canto do chuveiro.
4- cozinha com microondas, cafeteira, mesa, cadeiras.... Nao existia, e nao fomos avisados... Fizemos nossos planos para usar este espaço e ele nao estava disponível... Fomos literalmente enganados.
5- uma geladeira no meio do corredor, extremamente imunda, disponível para guardar seus alimentos...
6- toalhas para banho, nao estavam disponíveis, tivemos que comprar toalhas para uso proprio.
O hotel em nenhum momento nos informou que a estrutura oferecida nas propagandas nao estaria disponível... Apenas falaram que cobraram barato por isso.
A parte interna das cápsulas eram boas, porém, a televisão se ligada atrapalhava a todos, se você se mexia fazia bastante barulho, e porta não tinha, então algumas pessoas podem ficar com medo de ficar sozinhas ali, bom colchão, bons travesseiros e boa coberta. De resto, nao recomendo, principalmente da maneira como lidaram com isto... Me senti como um mendigo pedindo as coisas e depois tendo que fazer nosso café da manhã sentado no chão, perto do carrinho de limpeza, com os funcionários passando e desviando de nós... Foi um insulto a nós, que somos viajantes e queremos uma experiência legal. Não vão para este hotel.

Stayed at Hygie Hotel’s standard queen suite. Before booking, note that this is located in a basement, which was not indicated anywhere in the hotel’s website. The room had clean sheets upon arrival. We had to request for an extra towel as it was not prepared prior to our arrival. The heating in the room was abysmal. The service was okay. Overall, the low value for a night’s booking is well-reflected in the hotel’s service and amenities. The biggest pro to booking this hotel is its proximity to Downtown Montreal, but you can always book a different hotel in the area. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to maximize their money’s worth and experience good service and stay in Montreal. Please book elsewhere if you can.

Ok so this was my first time using a hostel/Pod room and I was looking forward to having a place to crash. But this is definitely a what you pay is what you get situation.
My check-in wasn’t working when I arrived, no one was at the front desk so I had to call them and eventually I was let inside. The codes they give you for the main entrance are the same for the pod rooms but I’m assuming anyone can just let themselves inside as long as they have the code. There wasn’t any security on site and I felt a bit uncomfortable with the idea that just anyone can come and go.
They have one bathroom and one shower to share, the shower has no hot water.
People were in and out, slamming doors and being loud at all hours of the night even though their policies say lights out after 10pm. People definitely do not respect these rules so if you’re looking for a place to sleep this ain’t it.
If you’re desperate for a place to spend the night out of the cold this is the place and I will probably still come back in the future if I absolutely have to but I rather spend the extra cash if I can to get a good nights rest.

Also check out was confusing because no one was around? So I just walked out and hoped I wasn’t going to get any surprise charges.
They also do not reply to texts or calls. Even though they advertise to “let them know” if we need anything. It’s just poorly managed.
I do hope they change a few things because this place does have a lot of potential.

Horrible!
If you’re desperate for a room, sure book it !

After travelling for 7 hours from Toronto, it took them 2 hours to find my booking in their system!
The kitchen was unavailable and they didn’t mention that at all ! LOTS of hair were on the bed sheets!
It was -27 degree outside and in the middle of the night the heater and electricity stopped in the room
No towel was available, the boiling water machine was not working…
The staff were giving side eye and attitude and speaking Arabic between them when you asked a question.

The pictures look good, but everything is super cheap and disorganized! Good luck !

Got a pod for quite cheap, and only stayed one night. The sheets clearly had not been washed and smelt strongly of onion and sweat, the shower took over 5 full minutes to heat up, and the walls were thin and you could hear everything. (Definitely bring a lock and earplugs) On a positive note the location was great, kitchen was nice, I felt like I had a good amount of privacy, and I didn't die in a fire- so pretty decent overall ?

Bien situé dans le Vieux-Port, mais la chambre était décevante par rapport aux photos. Il manquait des éléments essentiels comme une serviette par personne, un essuie-mains et du papier toilette. L'éclairage était problématique, surtout près du lit compte tenu que le seul interrupteur est à côté de la porte d'entrée. De plus, le bruit de tôle qui claque en continu de la ventilation était dérangeant.

Je ne recommande pas!!! Endroit, qui avait un bon potentiel, mais arrivé sur les lieux, l'odeur de malpropreté des gens m'a sauté au nez. Le comis nous montre le podz (capsule) en donnant les codes, mais il a oublié de nous donner la clé des casier. Je vérifie dans le podz qu'il aille bien une serrure pour dormir en sécurité et il y en a une. Je continue ma journée et en soirée, je m'installe du mieux que je peux et découvre qu'ils ont installé des barres de fer pour que les portes des capsules ne se ferme pas. De plus, la salle de bain était dégeullasse!!! 1 salle d'eau pour tout le monde avec 1 tapis foncé tâché et 1 serviette à main pour tous. Horiblement malpropre. J'avais réservé un lit double et il n'y avait qu'un seule oreillé. J'ai repris mes affaires et je me suis trouvé une autre hotel! Je regrette de ne pas avoir pris des photos, mais jamais j'y retournerais!
